A new roof
When care is no longer enough
Some roofs are past their years. When yours is, we say so with photos, show you how long it has left, and let you choose the time.
We install asphalt, cedar and metal roofs. A new roof is the smallest part of what we do, and we would rather you got another good decade out of the one you have.
How we quote a new roof
A written estimate with every line itemized
A per-sheet price for bad decking, stated before the roof comes off
The maker’s warranty and ours, kept in separate blocks

What we install
Three materials, with their usual lives
Typical lifespans from industry sources. Shade, slope and care change them.

Asphalt shingle
The usual roof. Laminated shingles commonly last 25 to 30 years, and moss and shade can take years off that.
Fastest to install
Easy to repair

Cedar shake
Natural, and a fit for older Whatcom homes. Cedar commonly lasts 25 to 50 years with care and treatment.
Needs moss care
Treatment on a schedule

Metal panel
Standing seam sheds needles and snow. Metal commonly lasts 40 to 70 years and needs the least moss care.
Costs more up front
Gutters still fill

Questions
About a new roof
How long does a new roof take?
Most homes take one to three days. Large, steep, cedar or metal roofs take longer, and a wet week stretches any of them.
Do I need a permit?
A full replacement usually does. We ask the city for it when it applies, and repairs and care visits usually do not need one.
Can you put the new roof over the old one?
Sometimes. Most roofers advise against it, and we will tell you why or why not when we have seen the deck.
Wondering how long your roof has left?
Book a roof look. We will tell you with photos, and you decide.
